We will have experienced faculty at hand to cater learning to your degree of scanning proficiency. We will be focusing on gallbladder assessment but also the elusive common bile duct. In addition, we will be interrogating the kidneys, urinary bladder, and other structures in the abdomen and retroperitoneum.

Utility of POCUS

An inspirational group of speakers will take you on a deep dive into the current state of Australasian POCUS with a snapshot of recent studies and a glimpse into the future of POCUS, how the incorporation of ultrasound has made a difference to the QLD Ambulance Service’s High Acuity Response Unit and a fun and pragmatic look at the challenges of evidence-based POCUS and the future.

Echocardiography and Lung Ultrasound

Three diverse presenters to get you excited about echo. Dr Jonathan Theoret, a FACEM, will impart a wealth of point of care echocardiography knowledge, Dr Luke Bayley, a senior trainee with a passion for POCUS (as well as multiple qualifications) will deliver the registrar’s experience with learning echo as well as examples of where echo has been helpful and changed patient management. Ruth Ramm, a echocardiographer and educator with over 25 years of experience will give insight into teaching echo and 6 questions to ask yourself when interpreting an echo image demonstrated with case studies.

Echocardiography Workshop

Hands-On Echocardiography Workshop - ticket required

This workshop will be divided into basic and advanced streams. In the Basic Echo stream; 'Scanning Made Easy,' learn how to obtain 4 echo images used to assess cardiac structure and function. Parasternal long axis, Parasternal short axis, Apical 4 chamber and Subcostal 4 chamber image. Intermediate and advanced stations will include assessment of valves, LV and RV function, measuring cardiac output and extended techniques for the shocked patient.
