Lecture Session - Beyond The Books 

Learn pearls and pitfalls as well as old and new techniques in musculoskeletal ultrasound and how you can integrate them into your practice. Interesting ways to look at fractured femurs, ribs, dislocations, and resus room procedures. A glimpse into using POCUS for eyes, testes, bowel, early pregnancy and lumps and bumps identification to fan the flames of your POCUS passion.

Three diverse presenters to get you excited about echo. Dr Jonathan Theoret, a FACEM, will impart a wealth of point of care echocardiography knowledge, Dr Luke Bayley, a senior trainee with a passion for POCUS (as well as multiple qualifications) will deliver the registrar’s experience with learning echo as well as examples of where echo has been helpful and changed patient management. Ruth Ramm, a echocardiographer and educator with over 25 years of experience will give insight into teaching echo and 6 questions to ask yourself when interpreting an echo image demonstrated with case studies.

The musculoskeletal workshop will include scanning of the shoulder, skin and soft tissue abscesses, sternum and ribs and knee - effusions and major tendons.

Hands-On Echocardiography Workshop - ticket required

This workshop will be divided into basic and advanced streams. In the Basic Echo stream; 'Scanning Made Easy,' learn how to obtain 4 echo images used to assess cardiac structure and function. Parasternal long axis, Parasternal short axis, Apical 4 chamber and Subcostal 4 chamber image. Intermediate and advanced stations will include assessment of valves, LV and RV function, measuring cardiac output and extended techniques for the shocked patient.
